One odd but amazing day!

In beginning of the month of july, 2005, i think it was like july 5, I set out fishing real early in the morning, because i had the day off and wanted to make the most of it. My aunt decided to allow me to join her in her boat, which is a really nice old town canoe. It was a beautiful morning, about 70 degrees. I started fishing with a weightless ribbontail worm, this was before i knew about the wacky worms, or else i would have been using that. Anyway i started out and there were pods of blugill fry hiting the surface all around me and everyone once in a while i would notice the that all the fish in the pod would jump all at once, Im pretty sure it was because there was a big bass underneath them.

I was getting many bites which seemed like they were from sunfish and bluegills, but atleast it kept me awake, and focused on the motion of the worm, which wasnt much might i add. All i was doing was casting the worm out and letting it sink for about 20 seconds then reeling it in a little more and letting it sink again. I was fishing in about 6 feet of water with a ledge going up into 4.5 ft of water close by. Ofcourse everytime i felt a tap I would set the hook, even if i did think it was just a sunfish. This was because the feeling of a bass biting on the worm is very close to the feeling of a sunfish nibbling on the line.

After about an hour out on the boat, we bagan to catch some bass, and that didnt stop for a while. For about the next two hours i was catching bass after bass, and these were not little fish either, most weighing 2 lbs or heavier and some of which were 5-6 lbs. Those were big bass for northern waters. Let me tell you that this pond that i was fishing at was not know to mass produce big bass, or big numbers of bass at all. My average day on this pond was about 6 bass and that was in 2 hous or so of fishing. That morning in about 3 hours i had landed 30, or so, bass, it was amazing! And i wasnt the only one, my aunt was catching the same amount, she was matching me fish for fish, something was going on that made these bass turned on. Im pretty sure it had something to do with the lunar cycle, it was a full moon, or very close to it for that day and the next three days and the fishing was fantastic for all of those days.

The best part of that day was not the morning, it was the evening bite, I went back out fishing that evening when it cooled down a little, it was about 90 degrees that day. I was fishing with a jitterbug because the sun was setting and it was soon to be dark, and there is no better lure for this time of night than a jitterbug. About 5 minutes before i set out fishing my mom called me and told me to get out on the water as soon as possible because my aunt had just caught the biggest bass she had ever seen. So i grabbed the camera and a scale and set out down to the pond. When i got there i saw the bass and it was the biggest one that i had ever seen as well, I weighed it, it weighed 6 lbs and 10 ounces, it was huge.

After all that commotion was done, I decided it was time to see what i could do when the bite was soo good. I started casting my jitterbug and within 8 casts i had already landed 5 bass, all of which were very good sized bass, nothing small. I casted again and this time it was different, the splash was much more loud, it was like a kurplunk, you guys/gals know what im talking about it was the big one. I set the hook and it was more powerful than any other bass i had ever had on the line, so powerful infact that i first thought it was a pike on my line. I finally got the bass in and immediatley started screaming, it was the biggest bass i had ever seen, even though the biggest one i had seen before that was caught a half an hour previously. I began screaming for someone to get a cammera and a scale so that i could document this beauty. No one was able to get to me soon enough and i had to let it go, luckily my sister was in the boat with me, so someone saw it to see that it was truely a monster, i would have to say that this fish was upwards of 8 lbs and about 23 inches long, a true giant. i decided that was a good way to end the night and i packed up my stuff and headed in. To this day, that was the biggest bass i have caught and even seen in real life.
